“We acknowledge the Dungidau clan as the traditional custodians of the land on which our school is built. We pay our respects to their ancestors both past, present and future.”

Welcome to our website...

At Tullawong, we aim to be a student-centered school, striving for all students to achieve quality educational outcomes and become active citizens in a learning community.

Tullawong State School is in Dungidau country. The Dungidau is a clan group of the Jinibara language group.

Mr John Clifford was the first principal of Tullawong State School. After discussions with Aboriginal Elder, Mr Ken Doulton, the decision was made to name the school Tullawong after an Aboriginal word meaning ‘mountain magpie’ (or possibly ‘currawong’).

This was chosen from a list of Aboriginal bird and animal names from the local Undambi language group, as provided by Mr Doulton. The school logo and name reflect the culture and history of the Aboriginal heritage and the traditional custodians of the land. The logo of the school was designed by ‘Minnie Mace’, (Miss Lynnelle Mace of Bribie Island). It depicts a background of the Glasshouse Mountains, with a Mountain Magpie in the foreground. The school motto, ‘We Are Our Future’, is inspirational and forward-looking, while the school name and logo provide a firm reminder of the school’s past in the form of the local area’s original cultural heritage.

ROCK EISTEDDFOD WOWED ALL
Colourful costumes, rocking rhythm and fantastic fun - that was The Rock Eisteddfod last Wednesday night. 150 Tullawong students danced their hearts out and put on a brilliant performance for over a 700 strong audience. The Year 5, 6, 6/7 and 7 Arts Class students together with the Indigenous Allstars and Prep A were excited to showcase their talents and for quite a few, overcome their nerves to go on stage and perform to such a large audience.

The confidence these children gained from this is immeasurable. It was the first year the Rock Eisteddfod was able to be held at our school, our hall is so fantastic and a wonderful place to hold such magnificent productions such as this. The theme this year was about being what you want to be and knowing there is a wide world out there you can work in. you just have to give it a go and try your best.

The past six months have seen the teachers and students find music, choreograph dances and get costumes then practice, practice and more practice to fine tune the performances. A lot of hard work, but the applause of the audience and the smiles on the children’s faces make it all worthwhile. The night could not have gone any better thanks to a lot of people. Firstly thanks to the children for doing their best, thank you to families for supporting their children, thanks to those who helped with the costuming, thanks to the great support and behind the scenes help by all staff who gave up their time.
